‘Don’t Smoke your Life Away’.
Smoking is injurious to health is a very popular slogan, but does this have helped anyone stop it! There are instances when people realize the urge and stop smoking tobacco. As per the World Health Organisation, COVID has majorly made millions of tobacco users quit smoking. 60% of the crowd wishes to quit smoking, but 30% actually can do it! With the initiative taken by WHO promoting the global campaign “COMMIT TO QUIT,” smoking is largely celebrated on 31st May every year.
World No Tobacco Day aims to raise awareness among global citizens about the dangers of using tobacco and the business practices of tobacco companies. WHO is fighting hard to make the right claims to make humans live longer and protect future generations.
The theme on World No Tobacco Day
In 2021 the theme is: Commit to Quit. WHO has organized this theme which largely aims to protect tobacco cessation by supporting the robust cessation policies related to it, improving the access for the service. Raising this awareness about the tobacco industry will provide support to the people who wish to quit tobacco via this QUIT & WIN initiative by WHO.
Due to the pandemic, the countries have urged to join the WHO campaign and spread awareness for a tobacco-free environment, offering people necessary information, tools, and support the need to quit smoking for good.
Tobacco smoke is a toxic chemical that causes damage to the linings of the lungs and the airways, causing trouble breathing. The chemicals of tobacco smoke suppress the activity of the different immune cells that leads to the weakening of the entire immune system and impairing one’s ability to fight any disease, especially COVID infection.
The act of smoking involves the fingers and possibly the contaminated cigarettes coming in contact with lips and increases the risk of transmission of the virus at large. Chewing any tobacco products is associated with spitting in public places, which eventually accelerates the risk of transmission of Covid through the droplet of saliva.
QUIT Smoking and WIN over this pandemic one step ahead. Let’s try to save ourselves and society with a conscious decision for saving humankind overall. Say NO to Tobacco Today and Tomorrow:-)
