Pollution Under Check Certificate Now Mandatory at Fuel Pumps

Residents of New Delhi can now breathe some more fresh air, as per a recent draft policy. The authorities will be making it compulsory for motorists to have a valid pollution-under-check certificate for refuelling. Thanks to this, the pollution levels in Delhi will be kept in check as defaulter vehicles will not be able to refuel in the city. The northern Indian states have been suffering from bad air quality, especially during the winters. Therefore the city government has taken some serious steps to counter this problem. Thanks to the new policy the authorities will be able to control the rising pollution level in the city, at least to a certain extent. The draft policy will soon be put in the public domain for further suggestions and invitations.

The Draft Policy

Once the policy is in place vehicles owners will have to carry a valid PUC certificate to the fuel station. Vehicles with invalid pollution under control certificates will have to issue one from the fuel station, before being refuelled. The entire machinery involved and effective implementation of this policy is still in the planning stage. The policy will also assure that there are no long queues for the checking of PUC certificates and facilitate a seamless experience. Chances are that technology like radio-frequency identification systems will make their way for the implementation. These RFID systems are already implemented at toll booths in the form of Fastags.

Push For Electric Vehicles

Back in August 2020, Delhi Government had introduced its EV policy which encourages more EV sales in the city. By 2024, the city has set a target to achieve a 25% market share for electric vehicles. A lot of automotive companies have also started introducing their electric vehicles in the country. This is also helping in quickly shifting to the EV segment. Most of the EV makers are also witnessing growth in their sales figures. Currently, the two-wheeler sector is witnessing maximum growth. Even the four-wheeler segment is picking up pace and more companies are planning to soon introduce their EVs in the coming years.
