Renowned electric mobility brand, Okinawa is aiming for 100% localisation in EV manufacturing. The company’s target for 100% localisation in India is in line with the Government of India’s ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat’ initiative. To further the cause, Okinawa has also invested around 200-250 crore in its new manufacturing plant located at Bhiwadi, Rajasthan. Okinawa is the 2nd most sold electric two-wheeler brand and therefore new plant will help cater to the local demand. The brand also reveals that the new demand is thanks to the increased awareness among the general public for electric vehicles. Also, the fuel prices have recently rocketed, crossing the INR 110/litre mark. Various state governments are also offering incentives on the purchase of electric vehicles and thus the brand is pushing for 100% local operations.
Okinawa’s Road Map for the Future
Okinawa plans to further grow and develop its products in the Indian market. The brand is planning for more product launches and company investments. This will enable the company to keep up with the recent market which follows social trends and craves new products from time to time. In terms of sales, Okinawa targeting to triple the figure by 2022. For example, in Gujarat, the brand has a customer base of over 5,000. The company plans to add more EVs in the next four years to aid the Gujarat Government’s aim of 2 lakh EVs but the end of 2025. Gujarat’s new EV policy will also encourage citizens to own an EV.
