Bangalore-based electric mobility start-up Bounce Electric has announced that the brand plans to manufacture and launch its first e-scooter in the Indian market. Bounce is known for its scooter rental service, in India. The brand boasts that the upcoming e-scooter will come with a swappable battery pack, reducing the range anxiety of customers. Currently, Bounce has not revealed the name of its e-scooter. But reportedly, customers will be able to rent the battery packs separately from the company instead of purchasing them with the e-scooter.

Swappable and Rentable Battery Strategy
Thanks to the new strategy, the purchase cost of the electric scooter will be minimised. The brand will offer a recurring subscription plan for the customers, which is also likely to include the battery and maintenance of the vehicle. Furthermore, the brand will set up battery swapping stations in the Indian market to allow customers traverse long distances with ease. The Company will be sourcing the the battery packs along with the management systems from Panasonic and LG Chem. Also, the brand claims that deliveries of the e-scooter will begin in the month of January 2022.
Bounce Electric – 22Motors and Production Plant
The start-up has apparently become a part of the auto-industry thanks to its acquisition of ’22Motors’. The brand acquired 22Motors in partnership with Kymco at an estimated value of USD 7 million or INR 52 crore. The procurement, took place in September 2021, which gave Bounce Electric all the rights to all ’22Motors’ intellectual properties. This leads us to believe that the electric scooter will be based on one of 22Motors former e-scooter platform. The acquisition also gave Bounce Electric 22 Motors’ manufacturing plant located at Bhiwadi, Rajasthan. The plant has a production capacity of 1,20,000 units per annum. But, Bounce Electric also plans to set up another manufacturing plant in one of the Southern states of India.
Bounce Electric – Powertrain Speculation and Competition
Powering the Bounce Electric scooter could be a hub-mounted DC electric motor. The electric motor will be capable of high torque output as well as a long range of around 100 km on a single charge. Thanks to the swappable battery customers will be able to maximise its range further without any range anxiety. The e-scooter will also get the latest generation telematics and comfort and convenience features. While information on the product is still sparse, we speculate that the scooter will compete with the Ather Energy 450X, the TVS iQube, Ola S1/S1Pro and Bajaj Chetak.
