Bajaj has announced that the two-wheeler and three-wheeler manufacturer will set up a new electric vehicle manufacturing facility at Akurdi, Pune. According to the brand, the new EV manufacturing facility will be ready for production by June 2022. Thanks to the demand for electric vehicles in the domestic and international market, Bajaj revealed that this facility would also manufacture products that will be exported to foreign countries. The brand will be investing close to INR 300 Crore for setting up this facility. The company will have a production capacity of 500,000 EVs per annum. Also, the new facility will generate employment for over 800 people. Interestingly, Akurdi is also the site where Bajaj produced the original Chetak.
More Details Of The Facility
The brand reveals that the new EV manufacturing plant will have the latest technology available. The company mentioned that the new facility would get all the cutting-edge robotic and automated manufacturing systems. The automated systems will also be extended into departments such as logistics, material handling, fabrication and painting. Also, the assembly and quality assurance departments will feature cutting-edge technologies. This will ensure that the facility returns maximum efficiency of the workers and also ensure the best worker ergonomics. The manufacturing unit will be spread over a total area of half a million sq. feet.
The manufacturing facility will also attract a number of vendors who will further invest around INR 250 Crore, revealed Bajaj. Alongside the manufacturing facility, the brand also has an R&D centre in place which will work in synergy and become a hub for designing, developing and manufacturing a complete range of electric vehicles.
