One of the largest two-wheeler and three-wheeler manufacturing company’s in India, Bajaj could be working on a new motorcycle for the Indian and international markets. The motorcycle is likely to be a twin-cylinder bike as Bajaj Auto has filed patents for a new “Twinner” name. The new motorcycle could come with a twin-cylinder engine which the brand might produce at their plant in Chakan. The development of the twin-cylinder mid-capacity motor could be in partnership with KTM. Bajaj Auto has a large stake in Pierer Mobility which is the parent company for KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas.
KTM Twin-Cylinder Motorcycles
Austrian brand KTM could be planning to introduce the new 490 Duke in the International market. The 490 range from KTM is likely to come with a parallel-twin cylinder engine architecture. After introducing the motorcycle in the international market, KTM is also likely to launch the KTM 490 in India. The same twin-cylinder motor. The new 490 Duke with the twin block will also take the form of the RC (Race Competition) and maybe the Adventure. Speculation is that Bajaj could produce the motorcycles under the long-standing partnership between the two brands at the company’s Chakan plant. In addition to this, Bajaj will also use the engine architecture to develop Bajaj motorcycles. Thus, the Bajaj motorcycle with a twin-cylinder engine could be named the Twinner. Heavily localising the motorcycle will also help Bajaj-KTM keep the prices low on their products.
Bajaj-Triumph Partnership
Bajaj Auto also joined hands with Triumph and under the partnership, the brands will produce small to mid-capacity motorcycles. Currently, Bajaj has not revealed any details about the powertrain that the motorcycle under the Bajaj-Triumph partnership will use. However, speculation is that the premium-spec motorcycle could come with a mid-capacity twin-cylinder engine.
